EAMA 2025
July 1 – 30, 2025
Paris, France
In summer 2025, Jiahao Han attended the European American Musical Alliance (EAMA) in Paris, a summer music festival founded by Dr. Philip Lasser as a continuation of the French pedagogical lineage of Nadia Boulanger and her student Narcis Bonet. Marking the festival’s thirtieth anniversary, EAMA offered an intensive environment in which performance, analysis, composition, and musicianship were deeply intertwined. As the only Piano Duo receiving fellowship, Jiahao Han and Vicky Lam studied chamber music with the renowned pianist and pedagogue Émile Naoumoff, himself a student of Nadia Boulanger; worked at the highest level of Keyboard Harmony with Dr. Lasser; and studied score reading of nineteenth- and twentieth-century symphonies and orchestral works with conductor Mark Shapiro.
Jiahao’s experience at EAMA culminated in a series of performances that reflected the festival’s emphasis on stylistic breadth, collaboration, and living musical craft. He performed the first movement of Schumann’s Piano Quintet with the EAMA String Quartet Residency (violinists Ji Hyun Baik and Dawn Kim, violist Carlos Walker, and cellist Lydia Rhea) as well as the complete Debussy Violin Sonata with violinist Margaret Holyoke. He also read newly composed art songs for composers in the program, contributing directly to EAMA’s vibrant exchange between performers and composers. Through these experiences, Jiahao deepened his connection to the French pedagogical tradition while expanding his artistry as a chamber musician, collaborator, and intellectually engaged performer.
