Debut at Temple Emanu-El

October 15, 2023

New York City, NY

On October 15, 2023, Jiahao Han made his New York debut performance at Temple Emanu-El, presented with the support of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. This appearance marked an important milestone following his success at the 2022 New York International Piano Competition, where he was awarded Second Prize. Performing in one of New York City’s distinguished cultural and historical venues, Jiahao presented himself as a young pianist of remarkable artistic depth, technical command, and imaginative sensitivity.

The recital featured two works by Beethoven in C minor—32 Variations, WoO 80, and his last Piano Sonata, no. 32—followed by Israeli composer Avner Dorman's energetic Piano Sonata no. 6 (the commissioned work for the 2022 New York International Piano Competition), selections from TAN Dun's reflective Eight Memories in Watercolor, and Stravinsky's seminal Three Movements from Petrouchka. The performance offered New York audiences an opportunity to hear a pianist whose artistry combines structural clarity, poetic sonority, and emotional intensity, representing a significant step in his artistic career in New York City.
